Magdalena Hylak, Galway Dance Artist-in-Residence, has curated a unique contemporary dance triple bill for The Town Hall Theatre this Saturday, March 23, at 8pm.
From the fulfilled silence of Mary Nunan’s Slant, to the lyrical approach of John Scott’s Heroes, through the experimental proposition of Hylak’s own A Dance, this Triple Bill brings together exceptional solos from three of the most experienced performers in the country.
Born in Poland, Hylak is based in the West of Ireland, and began her professional career in 2011. The University of Wroclaw graduate has worked on over 170 performances across 12 countries with dance artists including Michael Keegan Dolan, Liz Roche, Lea Anderson, Ríonach Ní Néill, Catherine Young Dance, Emma Martin and Akiko Kitamura before touring nationally and internationally with John Scott, Irish Modern Dance Theatre, and with Nacera Belaza. ‘I am delighted with the opportunity to curate this event as Galway Dance Artist-in-Residence. It's a great privilege to invite two renowned Irish choreographers who will perform their acclaimed solos in Galway for the first time.”
Heroes is a powerful and utterly unique dance/opera performance, thrillingly delivered by choreographer, dancer and operatic tenor, John Scott. Scott uses the universe of German operatic heroes: Beethoven’s ‘Fidelio’, Wagner’s ‘Die Walkure’ and ‘Siegfried’, and Weber’s ‘Der Freischutz’.
Mary Nunan’s Slant revolves around a woman who wants to tell us something, but she has to come at it sideways: to tell it slant. She tells us. This dance triple bill is a part of the Galway Dance Artist Residency Scheme from The Arts Council, with the support of the Town Hall Theatre, in partnership with Galway County Council, Galway Arts Centre and Galway Dance.
