Parents and teenagers urged to learn more dangers of drugs

Tuam Joint Policing Committee will host a drugs awareness information night at the Mercy Secondary School from 8pm to 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Parents and teenagers from Tuam and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend.

The organisers say the aim of the evening is to inform parents and teenagers about drugs, the risks involved and answer any questions they may have.

Support agencies will be present on the night to offer information and support to those attending. Speakers will include members of An Garda Síochána, recovered addicts and an addiction counsellor from the HSE - they will be available after the event for questions and discussion.

Other agencies involved in the event are Tuam Garda Station, Youth Work Ireland-Galway, RAPID, Western Traveller Intercultural Development Organisation, HSE West and Youthreach.

Tea/Coffee and light refreshments will be available on the night.

Anyone who cannot attend the event or would like additional information should contact Treo Nua Project, Youth Work Ireland, Galway at (093 ) 28494.
