Councillor Noel Larkin, former Mayor of Galway City, has announced his candidacy for Independent Ireland in the upcoming local elections.
“I am honoured to announce my candidacy for Independent Ireland and to continue serving the people of Galway City,” says Councillor Noel Larkin. “Throughout my tenure as a councillor and as Mayor, I have been privileged to work alongside dedicated community members and organizations to address key issues facing our city. I am committed to advocating for common-sense solutions that prioritize the well-being of our community.”
Noel Larkin has been a staunch advocate for various community initiatives and projects. As Mayor of Galway City from 2016 to 2017, he organized the Mayoral Charity Ball, with all proceeds benefiting local organizations such as the Blue Teapot Theatre Company, Galway Parkinsons Association, Sonas Mervue, Crannóg - Brothers of Charity, and ISPCC/Childline Galway.
Under his leadership, Galway City received prestigious accolades including the European Green Leaf Award 2017, European Region of Gastronomy 2018, and European Capital of Culture 2020.
Michael FItzmaurice TD paid a glowing tribute to Cllr Larkin on the announcement of the news.

His leadership will be invaluable in addressing the challenges facing the people of Galway and helping to implement positive change,” he said.
Councillor Larkin has been instrumental in addressing a wide range of community issues, including preventing illegal encampments, eliminating anti-social behavior, combating illegal dumping, and supporting small businesses and job creation.
Serving as as board member of GRETB (Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board ), and promoted apprenticeships in all trade sectors. He is actively involved in various committees focused on transportation, economic development, community development, and education. He is a strong supporter of the outer ring road project for Galway to help alleviate the chronic traffic problems faced by the people of Galway City.
