University of Galway invites prospective students to undergraduate open day

The University of Galway’s next on-campus undergraduate open day is taking place on Saturday March 9, from 9am to 3pm, providing prospective students, parents, guidance counsellors and teachers the opportunity to explore campus facilities, discover academic programmes, tour the picturesque campus and get an insight into student life.

This open day is designed for prospective students who are eager to explore the endless possibilities that await them at the University of Galway. It is a perfect opportunity for Leaving Cert, fifth year and TY students to gain valuable insights into the courses and future careers that await them after graduation. It also gives prospective students a chance to connect with the dedicated staff and engage with current lecturers and students who can share their first-hand experiences and offer invaluable advice.

The University of Galway is acclaimed for its dedication to excellence and offers more than 60 internationally recognised undergraduate degree courses in areas such as medicine, nursing, health sciences, arts, science, engineering, business, law and hotel management. Over 90 per cent of courses offer students a work placement and/or study abroad opportunity ensuring graduates are workplace ready, and much sought-after by employers at home and abroad.

Whether you’re on the fence or feel 100 per cent sure about the university you’ve chosen, there’s nothing quite like experiencing university life for a day before you’ve even started, and with special interactive events this open day promises to do just that.

The open day is spread across five exhibition zones and the schedule includes a large programme of talks with more than 60 course, subject, career and student support talks on offer. A special feature of this open day will be exclusive access to some of the university’s most innovative teaching and learning facilities and hands-on experiences including the interactive tour of new world-class healthcare simulation facilities located in the Clinical Science Institute Building.

For those interested in law courses, the School of Law’s Moot Court will be open to visitors with five tours taking place throughout the day. The Moot Court is designed to replicate the experience of a real court hearing for students.

The College of Science and Engineering is also offering interactive zones for future students to explore pathways and courses, such as the tour of the physics laboratory teaching facilities. On top of that, visitors are invited to join a drama masterclass, a practical drama workshop that gives a taste of the university’s degree in drama, theatre and performance studies. Finally, for a full campus experience, visitors are encouraged to join one of the three guided campus tours. Tours last approximately one hour and are hosted by student ambassadors.

The open day schedule includes a series of talks that will help students and parents prepare for college life with talks on student life, sport, and study abroad. The Access Centre will also host sessions on alternative pathways, mature student supports and the QQI/FETAC/PLC entry route. Parents are invited to attend a parents’ talk taking place at 11.30am with advice and guidance on how parents can support the progression to third level.

The University of Galway is looking forward to meeting future students to help them navigate their way through the many diverse and exciting study and career pathways that await them.
