Galway Community College of Further Education to hold open day next week

Galway Community College of Further Education (GCC ) will hold a further education open day on campus on Tuesday, March 5 from 9am to 4pm. This is an opportunity to visit the college in Wellpark, Galway city, to get the most accurate and up to date information about studying a further education course. Leaving Certificate students, school leavers, mature students, adults considering returning to education, teachers, and parents are invited to go along to GCC, the site of GRETB's College of the Future.

Centrally located at Moneenageisha Junction, GCC offers both Level 5 and 6 QQI (Quality & Qualifications Ireland ) further education courses in many vocational areas including business, secretarial, science, engineering, healthcare, early learning care, horticulture, equine, sport, motor technology, music, theatre, film, computer science and technology. The on-campus open day on Tuesday, March 5 will give prospective learners the opportunity to view the fantastic facilities and to explore the exciting and career-focused full-time courses commencing in September.

These courses are designed to allow students to progress into apprenticeships and employment, or to progress onto further studies either by studying a Level 6 course in GCC or by applying through the CAO system for progression to universities and technological universities nationwide. GCC maintains strong links with university access offices in University of Galway and ATU through talks, tours, and events, and students are guided through their application processes for progression to these colleges. Completing a course can also be used to investigate a study area before committing to a degree course in this area.

While studying in GCC, students are guaranteed expert tuition, modern facilities, career guidance, student café, free parking, and a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. The college offers fully funded Erasmus work placements abroad, this year some students have travelled to Malaga, Portugal, Sweden, Belgium, Malta and Norway. GCC also welcomes teachers from other countries on Erasmus mobilities, which enhances teaching and learning with European educational partners.

The open day on Tuesday, March 5 will give visitors the opportunity to talk to the coordinators and teachers of all the courses, to get career information, and help if required, to apply for their preferred course. Some details will be available about SUSI maintenance grants and social welfare information.
