Films from the current Dublin International Film Festival (DIFF ) will be screened in Connemara this weekend.
The series of screenings by Club Scannán is part of DIFF’s national film tour, and will take place at the Seanscoil Sailearna in Indreabhán.
The opening film of the weekend at 8pm on Saturday, February 24, is the heart-warming French film Toni, featuring Camille Cottin, star of comedy series Call my Agent. Toni has a full time job, sings in a bar, and is raising five children on her own. With children growing up and leaving, she ponders her next move.
On Sunday, February 25, a series of six short films will be shown begin at midday in Seanscoil Sailearna.
Later, at 2.30pm, the Nigerian feature-length film Mami Wata will wrap up the weekend of international films. Mama Wata is a story from a West African village by the sea. The spirit Mami Wata is the water deity controlling the community via the village leader. The harmony of the village is threatened and two sisters must fight to restore order. The film won a special jury award at last year's Sundance Film Festival.
