Rapparees return The Pogues to Galway

The Rapparees. Ireland’s ultimate and best Pogues Tribute band.

The Rapparees. Ireland’s ultimate and best Pogues Tribute band.

It’s set to be a fairy tale of The Pogues’ music at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, March 30, as Belfast’s Rapparees bring their renowned tribute show to Galway.

This talented five-piece folk group will pay homage to the iconic band as their music style echoes the spirit of the work crafted by the late Shane McGowan.

Their deep connection with The Pogues, forged during earlier joint tours, is evident in their profound understanding and love for their work.

Infusing punk with traditional instruments like the tin whistle, banjo, cittern, mandolin, and accordion, The Pogues revolutionised Irish music, embracing influences from jazz, flamenco, and the Middle East.

Now the Rapparees will breathe new life into hits such as ‘Fiesta’, ‘A Rainy Night in Soho’, ‘Dirty Old Town’ and many more at Monroe’s award-winning venue.

The band comprises talented multi-instrumentalists, including Joe McKeague, one of Ireland's finest ballad singers; Gerry McNeill on vocals, guitar, banjo, and bouzouki; Kevin Mawdsley on fiddle, whistles, and vocals; Stephen Flanagan on bass and button accordion; Conor McCaffrey on guitar, tenor guitar, and banjo.

The band members have a chemistry formed since school days, and they have played live gigs since 2006 when in university in Belfast.

Every year, their Christmas showcase of The Pogues has sold-out across Ireland and Britain.

Show starts 7pm. Tickets €28 from www.monroes.ie
