Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers has called for a full report to be issued on the final cost of the Martin Junction.

The call comes as Junior Minister for Transport Jack Chambers comes to Galway next Monday, February 26 to officially open the junction.

Cllr Cheevers has said although the junction has been opened for a number of months, the public still have not received the final figures on construction costs.

“This caused huge controversy at the time as construction ran over by ten months with no penalty clause attached for delay of contract.

“The original budget was €5 million but it’s estimated this budget overran,” he said, adding that although the junction seems to be working better than people expected, it is important taxpayers have clear transparency on the overall cost.
