March 9-16 is Irish Astronomy Week and Galway Public Libraries will have a number of talks taking place in the city and county to mark the occasion. All events are free of charge and open to the public, but booking is recommended.
Saturday 9 March at 11:00am, Tuam Library will have a space-themed storytime. There will be astronomy-themed colouring sheets and wordsearches available, as well as astronomy book displays in both the children’s and adult’s Library. Younger members will be encouraged tobuild a spaceship from Lego in the library and pictures of the bestspace ships will be put on social media.
Saturday 9 March at 2:30pm, Loughrea Library: Dave McDonald, who in 2007 discovered an asteroid, will give a talk titled “Of Planets And Asteroids”.
Saturday 9 March at 3:30pm, Ballybane Library: John Keady, Chairperson of Galway Astronomy Club, will give a talk entitled “The Wonders of theNight Sky”.
Tuesday 12 March at 6:15pm, Galway City Library: Felix Sproll, award-winning photographer, will give a talk entitled “Photographing TheNight Sky”. Event fully booked.
Wednesday 13 March at 3:30pm, Westside Library will have a Sun, Moon andStars Family Crafting Workshop. No booking necessary.
Thursday 14 March at 3:30pm, Westside Library will have a Lego Free-Play workshop - build your own rocket. Limited spaces, bookingessential. Ages 8+
Friday 15 March at 11:00am, Oranmore Library: Dave McDonald will give a talk titled “Of Planets And Asteroids”.
