Tarah Lenihan had struggled with her weight for years but with the help of Slimming World, she has lost over five stone.

Tarah had also made multiple attempts at losing weight but she found having to weigh and measure everything too restrictive, and previous weight loss attempts had always left her feeling hungry. She was also a busy working mother, she hadn’t the time or the will to be making separate meals for herself.

“Wearing size 20 clothes, I was unfit, miserable and completely ashamed of how I looked," she recalled. "I was desperate to make a real lifestyle change. I decided to give Slimming World a try and I love that it isn’t a diet, but a flexible eating plan that makes losing weight easy and enjoyable. By making some simple swaps, I can still have all our family favourites such as chicken curry, spaghetti Bolognese and big roast dinners.”

She feels that another contributor to her success is the support she gets at Slimming World each week. “I know I couldn’t have lost weight consistently without the weekly support, encouragement and understanding of my own consultant and group. I have gone on to have two more babies while doing Slimming World and have lost a total of 5 stone 4lb."

Tarah is now using her success to shape a new career. She has trained as a consultant for Slimming World, the UK and Ireland’s largest group-based weight loss organisation, and successfully relaunched a group in Ennis in January. She now wants to help even more people with the Slimming World group in Gort Community Centre. Now as a consultant, using her own personal experience, she creates a warm, friendly group to give her members a supportive atmosphere where they will have the encouragement to share their own experiences.

Tarah’s groups run in Treacy's West County Hotel on Tuesdays at 5.30pm and 7pm, and every Wednesday in Gort Community Centre at 5pm and 7pm.
