Galway City West and Knocknacarra Councillor Donal Lyons outlined this week his total frustration with Galway City Council on their efforts in progressing the long-awaited Kingston Master Plan.
Galway City Council adopted the Kingston Master Plan in 2018 and since then, Lyons has been raising the issue of progressing the Kingston Master Plan at a number of Galway City Council meetings, meetings of the Corporate Policy Group, and meetings of the Recreation and Amenity Strategic Policy Committee.
Lyons stated; "I was advised in and around September 2022 that Consultants would be appointed in a matter of weeks to progress the Kingston Master Plan to a planning application stage. I continued to raise the lack of progress and in early July 2023 I was advised by the Parks & Recreation Department of a ”Recreation and Amenity Capital Framework Projects” outlining a time frame for a number of Recreation and Amenity Projects including the Kingston Master Plan.
"According to the time-frame the “Appointment of Multi-disciplinary consultant for Kingston-Millar’s Lane Project” would take place in October 2023”. However, this date passed and on December I received a further update stating that the consultant would be appointed in December 2023.
"However, this date has also passed and I note in the Chief Executives February 2024 Report under Masterplans 'Kingston Millar’s Lane Public Park & Public Urban Realm Project – lead bidder due diligence of evidence supplied examined and letter of acceptance to issue shortly'.
"I have asked the Interim Chief Executive to give clarity as to when this appointment is going to be made as this proposed development of the Kingston Master Plan is long awaited and long overdue. It is vital that this consultant is appointed in order to progress this important recreation amenity for the Kingston area."
