National Learning Network in Galway supports people to make successful transitions, whatever their stage in life. We can help with transition from school to the adult environment, with access to vocational training, support with getting a job, recovery and wellness, improving people’s health, enhancing quality of life and achieving successful inclusion in the community.
National Learning Network offers fully-funded training courses for people who have mental health issues, learning difficulties, autism, or have a disability. Students are supported to fulfil their own goals, whether this is to get a qualification or a job, or to enhance personal development.
The Galway centre is now enrolling for a full-time, two-year QQI certified horticulture programme. It concentrates on modules designed to give the student a solid foundation in horticulture skills and will facilitate the learner in specialising in a preferred area, such as landscape, garden maintenance, garden centre operations, or turf maintenance.
Bob Reilly, instructor of the horticulture course, said: “Students will engage in both classroom and practical hands-on learning, as well as work placements, developing a broad range of skills required to seek employment in a variety of roles within the horticulture industry. Outdoor learning facilities at our horticultural unit in Galway include a large polytunnel and various areas dedicated to the growing of a wide selection of fruit, vegetables, flowers, trees and shrubs.”
The training courses at National Learning Network Galway have impacted significantly on the progression of people with a disability, or with additional support needs, into employment.
