A migrant support officer at Galway Migrant Service has confirmed that she is to stand as an Independent candidate in this summer’s local elections in Galway City West.

Esther Osayimwen will launch her campaign at an event in the Clybaun Hotel at 7pm this Saturday night.

Ms Osayimwen said that Ireland has transformed since her arrival 22 years ago, evolving into one of the world’s wealthiest societies.

“It has embraced immigration, fostered integration, and provided opportunities for growth and success, thereby creating an environment for all to realize their potentials.

“In this I have had the privilege of raising my family, obtaining my second college degree and other relevant qualifications as well as working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, supporting, advocating and mediating with government and relevant agencies on their behalf on issues that are crucial to them and their families.

She said that her lifelong passion has been to foster stronger community integration and development, promoting meaningful engagement and empowering individuals to express themselves in ways that best support their aspirations.

“I am devoted to supporting our Irish community on various levels, enhancing awareness of our cultural diversity and its contributions and benefit to Ireland. I am reaching out to you for support as I strive to secure a seat in the Galway City West constituency in the upcoming 2024 local election.

“Your support and prayers are crucial during this time. A successful outing in this election will signify a triumph for diversity in Galway, benefiting our children, the current generation of Irish citizens, our families, and establishing a resilient future in Galway City West. Your support is instrumental in building more robust and interconnected communities where collective efforts achieve significant milestones, ensuring that every voice matters and is heard,” she said.
