Galway University Musical Society will perform a rock musical inspired by Green Day’s iconic 2004 album American Idiot as its headline show this season.
Now in its 22nd year, Galway University Musical Society (GUMS ) will present ‘American Idiot!’ for a five-night run at 8pm, from Tuesday, January 30, to Saturday, February 3, at the Black Box theatre.
This musical follows Johnny, Tunny and Will who wish to flee suburbia in an attempt to find meaning in a post 9/11 world. Tunny enters the armed forces, Will is forced to remain to fulfil his parental responsibilities, while Johnny's attention becomes divided by a seductive love interest and his drug-fuelled alter ego.
This high energy rock opera features minimal dialogue, instead relying on the lyrics and music from Green Day’s groundbreaking album American Idiot to tell its Tony Award-winning story.
