ALDI, Ireland’s best-paying supermarket chain, have announced plans to hire over 70 people across its stores in County Galway as part of a nationwide campaign to recruit team members ahead of the busy spring period.

Since opening its first store in the county back in 2000, ALDI’s network has grown across the county to 11 stores, bringing unbeatable prices to the communities it serves.

With 161 operational stores nationwide, including the recently opened store in Carrigaline, Co. Cork in December 2023, ALDI continues to expand its workforce, currently employing almost 5,000 people across the country.

The recruitment drive comes on the heels of ALDI’s commitment to adopting the recommendation of the Living Wage Technical Group in 2024. This means that from 1 February, the starting rate for store assistants and selectors increases to €14.80 per hour and reaffirming ALDI’s dedication to its almost 5,000-strong employees and its commitment to delivering market-leading rates of pay. ALDI is the first supermarket in Ireland to adopt the Living Wage recommendations in 2024.

Brian O’Shea, HR Director at ALDI Ireland, said ALDI is dedicated to not only providing exceptional products and services to our customers but also creating a rewarding and supportive environment for our employees.

“Our commitment to offering market-leading pay, comprehensive benefits, and a focus on employee well-being underscores our belief in nurturing a motivated and fulfilled workforce.”

“In addition to competitive pay, new recruits will have access to dedicated employee benefits and comprehensive wellbeing support. Moreover, ALDI prioritises career progression opportunities for its employees; with initiatives such as the Women in Leadership Programme, which focuses on improving opportunities for women to progress to leadership roles across the business.

“The retailer recently became the first Irish supermarket to receive the Ibec KeepWell Mark in recognition of its efforts towards promoting employee wellbeing.

Recruitment across the country is currently underway for various roles, including positions at new stores as well as filling existing vacancies. ALDI encourages interested individuals to apply promptly as the company continues its expansion efforts and experiences heightened demand across its existing store network in preparation for the upcoming spring season.
