The new fire station for Athenry is reaching the final stages of construction, Dep Sean Canney said this week.
The new single-storey 361sq m fire station building, located at Ballygarraun South, Athenry, will be able to accommodate three fire tenders, storage areas, equipment storage, watch room, drying facilities, lecture room, compressor room, workshop, toilet facilities, drill yard, drill tower, refuse area and car parking when complete.
“When complete the building will provide a modern firefighting facility to serve Athenry and the catchment area,” Deputy Canney said this week. “This is what the residents and fire service personnel deserve.
“I commend Cllr Gabe Cronnelly and Galway County Council for their work in helping to bring this important facility to fruition.
“This fire station follows on from the successful completion of a new fire station in Tuam, and I look forward to working with the Department of Local Government and Galway County Council fire service in delivering the proposed new fire station in Loughrea,” the Independent TD for Galway East continued. “This will be the third new station to serve the population in the east of the county.”
