Family day to raise awareness about maternity care issues in Galway

The Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services (AIMS ) Ireland West will hold its first annual family day at the Galway City Museum on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm.

It will include storytelling with Eddie Lenihan, music, a colouring contest, Indian head massages for adults, prizes and more.

City Councillor Niall Ó Brolcháin will address the event at 1.15pm.

AIMS Ireland is a voluntary organisation formed by women who felt a need to vocalise their concerns about the Irish maternity services. With volunteers in regions throughout the country it provides free, independent and confidential support to women and families.

The AIMS west regional group decided to hold the family day to raise awareness of the group’s mission and its efforts to address maternity care issues in Galway.

“Maternity care is an issue not only for pregnant and expecting mums to be concerned with, it’s an issue that affects the whole family and community,” explains a spokesperson for the organisation. “Our family day event is a prime example of how the community can come together to show support for maternity issues.”
