Michael Fassbender to give film fleadh’s actors’ masterclass

THE AWARD winning actor Michael Fassbender, who has starred in 300 and Hunger, will give this year’s Galway Film Fleadh Actors’ Masterclass on Saturday July 11.

Michael Fassbender was born in Heidelberg in 1977 to an Irish mother and German father and he was raised in Killarney.

His film credits include Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards, where he played Lt Archie Hicox. He has also appeared in Band Of Brothers, Colin Bateman’s Murphy’s Law, and Francois Ozon’s Angel.

His best known role to date was as Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen’s stunning Hunger. For the role Fassbender lost 40 pounds, as the latter half of the movie chronicles Sand’s physical disintegration. This is in contrast to his role as Stelios in Zack Synder’s 300 where he played a tough, muscular, Spartan warrior. As part of the fleadh’s tribute to Michael Fassbender, Hunger will screen on Friday July 10.

The masterclass will take place on Saturday July 11 and will be facilitated by casting agents Ros Hubbard and Mary Maguire. The class is open to all aspiring and budding actors and those interested should submit a CV to Mary Deely in the Galway Film Centre, Cluain Mhuire, Monivea Road, Galway.
