ANTRIM’S STUART Graham and Derry’s Judith Roddy are currently in the Nuns Island Theatre, rehearsing for the award winning play Blackbird by David Harrower, which is part of this year’s Galway Arts Festival.
Film audiences will be familiar with Stuart Graham from his recent success in the internationally acclaimed Hunger and TV viewers will know Judith Roddy for her leading role in RTÉ’s Love Is The Drug.
Blackbird was originally commissioned for the Edinburgh Festival and went on to win the Olivier Award for best new play in 2007. It has been described as “a fascinating cat-and-mouse tale of revenge and sexual intrigue” and “a remarkable play which asks serious questions about society and morality”.
The play is being presented by Decadent Theatre Company and the Galway Arts Centre. It is directed by Andrew Flynn.
Blackbird will be staged in the Nuns Island Theatre from Wednesday July 15 to 25 at 8pm with previews on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 at 8pm. Matinees will be held on Saturday 18 and Saturday 25 at 3.30pm. There is no show on July 19.
