Quakers to host an interfaith Christmas Service for Peace

The Religious Society of Friends, Quakers will host an interfaith Christmas Service for Peace on Thursday December 14.

As Galway prepares for the birth of the Prince of Peace, one cannot ignore the fact that millions of people across Gaza and the West Bank of Palestine, Israel, Ukraine and Russia, as well as parts of Africa are currently suffering and dying as a result of armed conflicts.

As a community, Quakers are pacifists and refuse to take up arms for any cause. Rather in all situations we seek to build peace upon the pillars of the social justice and equity between warring factions, so that ‘Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.’ (Isa.ii.4; Mic.iv 3 )

There will be readings from the Gospel and Qur’an by members of Galway’s different faith communities. Internationally renowned peace activist and retired Irish commandant Edward Horgan will speak on the importance of preserving Ireland’s neutrality as a tool for building peace. And music will be provided by Roisin El Cherif.

The service will take Thursday in the Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre, 1 Mill Street, Galway H91 AK65, starting at 6:30pm.
