Mick Galwey, the former Munster and Ireland rugby star, was in Galway recently to give a motivational talk to the student rowers at NUIG.
With the rowing season in full swing, The NUI Galway Boat Club is currently preparing for the forthcoming Henley Royal Regatta and the Irish National Rowing Championships.
Galwey joined members of the senior and intermediate rowing squads to discuss physical and mental preparation. NUIG, which boasts an international class crew of Alan Martin, Paul Giblin, James Wall and Beijing Olympian Cormac Folan, has high hopes of a strong showing in the prestigious Visitors’ Challenge Cup event at the world famous Henley Royal Regatta (July 1-5 ).
The college also hopes the extended squad can reclaim the national senior eights title, while mens and women’s crews will compete at all levels at next month’s National Rowing Championships in Cork.
