The water safety classes organised by the County Galway Water Safety Committee resume in Leisureland on Sunday January 14.
Places are available for new pupils who must be 13 years of age with reasonable swim ability. These classes operate from 9.30am to 11.00am on Sunday mornings under the auspices of Water Safety Ireland.
The pupils are taught life saving skills including water confidence, and exam structure whereby pupils receive certificates for all exams passed. The courses lead to poolguard and Beach-lifeguard certificates which are prerequisites for employment as a Poolguard or Beachguard.
Many children lack an awareness of how to stay safe when playing near water and these courses teach participants how to embrace water-based activities safely.
Registration takes place in Leisureland between 10.00am and 10.30am on Sundays December 3 and 10.
