Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers has called on Galway City Council and Galway County Council to set up a steering committee to develop a masterplan for the Galway Airport Site.
Cllr Cheevers submitted a notice of motion at Tuesday’s Adjourned November meeting that Galway City Council with its sister local authority Galway County Council set up the steering Committee with the purpose of ongoing management of airport site pending a receipt of a masterplan.
“The steering committee should be made up of equal representation of both local authorities with councillor representation on the committee also,” he said.
Cllr Cheevers’ motion was seconded by his colleague Cllr Peter Keane and unanimously supported by his council colleagues.
“I believe we must see a masterplan delivered on this site. Both local authorities have owned this site for over eleven years and we still have not seen a masterplan.
“We must now see delivery of this. Although the site is in the county, both local authorities own the site equally so that’s why I believe a steering committee of equal representation is the way forward for delivering a comprehensive masterplan for the Airport Site.
