Minister of State Anne Rabbitte, has welcomed the news that an additional 215,000 people in Ireland are now eligible for the GP Visit Card Scheme. The Galway East TD is also encouraging people to check their eligibility in the wake of expanded criteria.

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly recently announced the third expansion of the scheme this year. These expansions have now made free GP care available to an additional 500,000 people.

“Health is a top priority for Fianna Fáil in Government and the expansion of the GP Visit Card Scheme, announced by my party colleague, the Minister for Health, is a significant development,” Minister Rabbitte said this week.

“With this latest expansion of the scheme, close to half of all households in Ireland could be eligible for free GP care. Fianna Fáil is focused on doing everything possible to remove cost as a barrier to healthcare, particularly in the ongoing cost of living crisis.

“As the scheme has expanded again, I want to encourage everybody, even those who do not think they qualify, to find out more and apply at www.hse.ie/GPVisitCards
