Galway Community College of Further Education offers more than 40 part-time evening programmes. These courses cover many disciplines and currently cater for approximately 500 learners annually. There is a wide range of relevant accredited and general interest programmes available every September and January. All courses are classroom based and taught by highly professional tutors who are masters in their field.
GCC has a total of 40 courses on offer which run on Mondays and Tuesdays. The hobbies courses run for a period of 10 weeks from 7pm to 9.30pm, and the accredited courses run for a period of 12 weeks from 7pm to 10pm.

Hobbies
GCC has added a variety of courses for this January including social dance classes with a tutor, Irene Boyle, dance teacher and adjudicator with An Chomhdhail organisation. She has provided social dance classes for the last five years including line dancing, waltzing and jiving. Join the new GCC choir, which will be a mixed choir with tutor Ciara Walsh. The introduction to makeup artistry course will see students design and practice their own look from start to finish using all of the skills learned on the course. Mnemonics – the Art of Memory will be delivered by tutor Joe Thornton, who has 15 years’ experience teaching memory techniques and visualisation.
If you are a new home owner or doing renovations why not join the interior design course taught by Emily Hooks who has 10 years’ experience as a Laura Ashley interior designer. Commercial flower arranging and exclusive wedding flowers will be delivered by highly skilled florist tutor, Karmel Haskett with over 20 years’ experience running her own floristry business. In the jewellery making course you can design your own jewellery. The tutor, Berina Kelly trained with the Crafts Council of Ireland as a goldsmith.
Other courses include nurturing childhood development and play, a course aimed at new parents, which is delivered by a tutor with over 20 years’ experience running her own crèche and teaching Early Childhood Care modules. There will also be a course in equine skills incorporating health and performance for equine enthusiasts.
GCC's regular courses are also running including language studies, offering conversational Irish and Spanish and Sign Language; creative writing; poetry skills; genealogy; yoga; basic understanding of taxation; DIY carpentry; oil and acrylic painting; upholstery; and upcycling furniture.
Accredited courses
GCC's QQI Level 5 and Level 6 modules are sought after by people working in the business sector who would like to upskill but often cannot commit to a full-time award. This January these modules include supervisory management, customer service, bookkeeping and payroll, HRM, managing people, and business management. One module which has been in demand over the last number of years and is being offered again is mathematics QQI Level 5, which may be needed as an entry level requirement for specific third level college courses. There are additional modules in healthcare dietetics and nutrition, special needs assisting, intellectual disability studies, physiotherapy assistant theory and physiotherapy assistant practice.
