Misinformation at Merlin Park hospital exit demands immediate action says Ogbu

Labour Local Area Rep Helen Ogbu has raised urgent safety concern and misinformation at Merlin Park hospital exit demanding immediate action by the Council.

Ms Ogbu said recent events have unveiled a pressing concern regarding the safety of individuals departing Merlin Park Hospital.

“An official safety warning advises drivers to turn left at the exit and use the roundabout; however, an alarming misinformation has come to light. There is no roundabout when turning left; instead, it has been replaced with traffic lights.

“This misinformation has raised significant alarm, given the consistent incidents of accidents occurring at this exit. It is vital to ensure the safety of all residents and individuals visiting Merlin Park Hospital, and immediate action is imperative,” she said.

Ms Ogbu said that the safety of our community is of utmost importance, and it is crucial to address this issue promptly.

“Galway City Council is called upon to investigate this matter and take the necessary measures to safeguard the lives of all who use this exit. Options include installing traffic lights at the entrance or implementing any other suitable safety measures to mitigate the ongoing risks.

“With the potential for more fatalities looming, it is incumbent upon the Council to act swiftly. The lives of those in our community are at stake, and we cannot afford to delay any further. Our collective safety should be the highest priority,” she concluded.
