It began as rebooting a failing shoe factory, became a Brit romcom movie, and then Cyndi Lauper scored it as a stage musical.
But now heels and feels extravaganza Kinky Boots premiers in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre for four nights only from Wednesday, 15 November.
After four months of intense rehearsal, Claregalway’s 9 Arch Musical Society 21st stage show is a tribute to the Tony Awards’ Best Musical for 2013. The comedy-drama won five other Tonys, and was nominated in 13 categories.
Kinky Boots is a fun and fast-paced performance, with lots of show-stopping numbers and big choruses. The show is based on a true story. Charlie, played by Niall Caulfield, inherits his late father’s traditional shoe factory. He soon discovers it can no longer compete with cheap imports, and is destined to close.
Along comes an unexpected source of inspiration: Lola, played by Eoin Mullins (the AIMS Award winner for Best Male Singer ), a London-based drag queen who identifies a niche in the market for man-sized kinky boots.
Charlie and Lola find common ground in balancing their fathers’ very different expectations with their own dreams. Together they design a unique pair of ‘Kinky Boots’ to take the fashion world by storm.
With an award-winning production team composed of director Alan Greaney, musical director Shane Farrell, and choreographer Jay Molyneux, this show will have you dancing in the aisles!
