During his time in Galway, fate intervened, bringing Dr. Kevin together with his now-wife, Natasha, who was pursuing engineering studies at the same university. After obtaining his medical degree, Kevin initially embarked on his professional journey in the UK, where he and Natasha spent five transformative years. It was during this period that they tied the knot and started their family.
In 2005, an opportunity arose in Dr. Kevin's specialisation, beckoning him back to his beloved Ireland. Eager to return home, the family embraced this chance, leading Dr. Kevin to practice surgery at a number of prestigious hospitals over the following decade, including the Mater Private and Blackrock Clinic.
However, the year 2014 proved to be a pivotal moment in Dr. Kevin's career trajectory as an increasing fascination with hair transplant surgery took hold. Determined to explore this innovative field further, Dr. Kevin committed himself to extensive training, thus embarking on a transformative journey to become a hair transplant surgeon.
Establishing Tir na nÓg Clinic
In 2015, driven by a resolute vision, Dr. Kevin made the bold decision to leave his position at Blackrock Clinic. With the support of his wife Natasha, he redirected his skills and expertise towards establishing Tir na nÓg Clinic. Since its inception, Tir na nÓg Clinic has flourished, catering to the needs of its clientele and relocating to its bespoke premises in 2016.
Dr. Kevin is not only a fountain of knowledge in his field but also a passionate advocate for his patients. Frequently asked why he chose to transition from major surgery to hair transplant surgery and running his own business, Dr. Kevin explains that his decision was multifaceted. From a logical standpoint, he recognised the declining demand for cardiac surgery due to the advent of cardiac stents, while hair transplant surgery has experienced a consistent surge in popularity. Additionally, the long hours and commute associated with his previous speciality were crucial factors that Dr. Kevin considered, given his dedication to his young family of five.
However, the heart-led aspect of his decision proved equally compelling. Dr. Kevin was motivated by empathy and a desire to alleviate the struggles of individuals battling hair loss. Often afflicting relatively young individuals with their lives stretching ahead, the emotional toll of hair loss on their confidence and self-esteem struck a chord with Dr. Kevin. In his eyes, the value of helping these individuals is just as significant as providing care for those with heart conditions. Moreover, he enjoys the personal connections he establishes with his hair transplant patients, during consultations and where the patient is awake during treatment —an invaluable experience not possible with cardiac patients.
