Gort’s Starz Youth Group will stage Shrek The Musical on the October Bank Holiday weekend.

“Beware the ogre!” is the theatrical cry at Gort Community Centre for performances on Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29.

The family-friendly musical comedy follows the adventures of an ogre named Shrek who sets off on a quest to save a princess from a dragon. However to succeed, Shrek must battle an even bigger obstacle: learning how to believe in himself and open his heart to others.

With music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, Shrek The Musical is based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film and the book Shrek by William Steig.

“Shrek’s unique story of discovery encourages each of us to examine our prejudices, review what we believe to be our limitations and work to better understand ourselves and others. The cast and crew in this production may very well have embarked on a similar journey… while working together to present this musical,” says Starz producer, Nicola Kerrigan.

Saturday and Sunday night performances run 90 minutes including interval with curtains up at 7.30pm. An extra matinee show will be staged at 3pm on Sunday, October 29.

Tickets are available from Gort Educational World, Gort Community Centre, or on the door. Reserve tickets by emailing [email protected] or follow Starz youth group on social media.
