Power draws on deep well of emotion

Galway’s jazz folk chanteuse Brigid Mae Power returns home this month following her latest album Dream From The Deep Well winning critical acclaim.

With sterling reviews from The Guardian and Irish Times, expect a full house at The Róisín Dubh for Power’s homecoming gig on Sunday, October 22.

The essence of reimagined folk music – modern Folk for modern folk; Power’s evocative vocals alongside strings, steel guitar, horns and mellotron creates a baroque loveliness, interspersed with personal tales of offspring and grandparents, the lovelorn and the lost.

Power’s fourth album is a visionary new beginning for the gifted songwriter, and her most complete album to date.

After two lauded albums for Tompkins Square, Power signed to Fire Records and released her acclaimed, autobiographical album Head Above The Water in 2020. Her last record was a coming-of-age opus that featured ground-breaking amalgamations of traditional folk and country.

Skilfully interpretating numbers by Aretha Franklin and Patsy Cline on her 2021 EP Burning Your Light, Power brings hope and reverence to classic songs. This illustrates her unquestionable love for the art of song writing.

Politically primed and socially aware, the Galwegian musician has found power in her extraordinary voice. Expect melancholy which uplifts, yet remains wonderfully consuming.

Tickets €18 from www.RoisinDubh.net for Sunday, October 22.
