Fifty shades of Behan

Exactly half a century after first exhibiting his magnificent bronze sculptures at The Kenny Gallery in Galway, John Behan returns with Across the Bitter Sea.

Opening at Kenny’s in Liosbán this Saturday, the exhibition includes striking new versions of Behan's iconic famine ship, and features explorations of Ukrainian migrant themes. While primarily a continuation of his important ‘migrants’ work, 50 years of classic Behans will also be exhibited in the form of flights of birds and bulls, and all pieces are for sale.

Perhaps Ireland’s pre-eminent artist in his medium, the artist recently featured in a major film documentary biography by Donald Taylor Black, which was shown at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

Poet John F Deane will launch Across the Bitter Sea at 2.30pm on Saturday, September 30 at The Kenny Gallery.

The exhibition runs until October 24, at Kenny’s Bookshop & Gallery (Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm ) in the Liosbán Business Park, Tuam Road, and online at www.thekennygallery.ie
