Croí is to collaborate with University of Galway to bring Heartfest 2023 to the public with a choice of two events this September. The public are encouraged to visit either or both events which will run on Wednesday September 27 and Thursday September 28.

On Wednesday September 27, University of Galway will host a community heart health awareness event, as part of Croí’s Heartfest 2023 at the Upper Aula in the Quadrangle from 10am – 3pm

To highlight World Heart Day members of the public and University of Galway staff and students are invited to join the University’s Student and Staff Health and Wellbeing Team and the Croí Health Team to avail of heart health checks, talks on goal setting and physical activity for heart health, Nordic walking, and Tai Chi demonstrations and lots more.

Through its cutting-edge research and academic endeavours, University of Galway contributes daily to the fight against heart disease and stroke. It is fitting that Croí and University of Galway are joining forces to host this event to promote cardiovascular health and to highlight the many ways that research and academia extend beyond lecture halls, labs, and research papers to its beautiful campus and beyond. This special event aspires to positively influence the cardiovascular health and wellbeing of the lives of the people of Galway.

On Thursday September 28 Croí will celebrate Heartfest 2023 at Croí Heart and Stroke Centre. In its second year, Heartfest is a free and holistic cardiovascular health and wellness day dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to get proactive about their cardiovascular health.

It will take place from 10 am – 3 pm at Croí Heart and Stroke Centre, Moyola Lane, Newcastle, Galway, H91 FF68. Visitors to Croí Heart and Stroke Centre can avail of free Heart Health Checks, interactive educational sessions delivered by Croí’s multidisciplinary health team on topics such as risk factors for heart disease and stroke, healthy eating, goal setting, physical activity including tasters for yoga, strength training and CPR demos.

There will be a range of interactive digital stands offering attendees an insight into the future of technology and robotics in healthcare. In addition, there will be CPR demos and information on arts and health, music therapy and much more.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view the facilities available at Croí Heart and Stroke Centre and learn of the valuable community supports that are in place for heart and stroke survivors, families and carers and healthcare professionals.

These two important events are being held in recognition of World Heart Day which falls on Friday September 29. World Heart Day is a reminder to everyone around the world to take care of their hearts. Because when we know more, we can take better care.
