Sinn Féin held their selection convention to select a candidate for the local elections for the South Connemara LEA in An Crompán, An Cheathrú Rua where Kevin O’Hara was selected to go forward to contest the 2024 local elections.

It was the first selection convention held by Sinn Féin in Galway for the 2024 local election cycle and both Mairéad Farrell TD and MEP Chris MacManus were present.

O’Hara who grew up in An Spidéal, ran previously for Sinn Féin in the 2019 local elections when he failed to take a seat, garnering a little over 500 first preference votes.

“There is a real appetite for change all across Connemara,” O’Hara said. “People are looking for change at a community level and at an individual level, an awful lot of people are struggling”

“Local infrastructure, roads and housing are all linked and along with communities facilities will be a priority for me. For a long time Connemara has been forgotten about when it comes to investment and infrastructure.”

“Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have been in power for far too long. The longer they have been in power the worse things have got. The local elections are an opportunity to start delivering change.”

“Change starts in our local communities. I look forward to working to represent my community and hopefully after the 2024 local election, we will have a team of Sinn Féin Councillors all across Galway’s Councils, working in conjunction with Mairéad Farrell TD so that we can ensure that the council delivers on the issues that matter locally”
