This year marks the first anniversary of the death of playwright, poet, novelist and artist Patricia Burke Brogan.
A local of Galway, Brogan is best known for her play Eclipsed which exposed the inhumane treatment of women in the institutional Magdalene Laundries.
To commemorate her work, local women’s collective, AAC West, is organising an event with an extract from the play staged by Cara Brophy-Brown. This will be followed by Dr Lorraine Grimes, historian and researcher, in conversation with Maureen Sullivan, a Magdalene Laundries survivor who recently published the book The Girl in the Tunnel.
The evening will include poetry and song from artists including Sharon Murphy, Kity Nasa, Áine Ní Fhaolain and Aoife Welby.
The event is free to attend and will be held in Áras na Gael on Sunday September 3 at 7.30pm. All welcome.
