Higgins calls for Salthill Park overhaul

Salthill's "treasured public space" is in need of an overhaul, according to Cllr Clodagh Higgins, who is calling on the city council to undertake enhancements, and replace footpaths and planters,

Higgins says this public park which overlooks the promenade and Galway Bay is an important recreational amenity.

"Its value is realised every day by young and old alike. It is for this reason we must continue to maintain and preserve this treasured public space," she says.

Cllr Higgins has met with a senior official from City Hall at Salthill Park to seek significant enhancements. In particular, she says, the footpaths need upgrading at the upper park level, and maintenance of the planters in the area must be enhanced.

"It is important for the park to be an inviting and accessible environment for visitors of all ages and abilities. I believe the replacement of footpaths and planters is a vital step towards ensuring a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment for visitors and local residents.

"Planters would not only bring colour and texture to the park, but also provide a habitat for various wildlife species contributing to the park's ecological diversity."

Cllr Higgins says she will continue to work with Galway City Council to "ensure the enhancement of the area" - improvements which will "provide a sense of pride, joy and connectivity "for all who visit the amenity".
