GSPCA - caring for animals in the community

The Galway Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA ) have been an active force in animal welfare since 1999 taking care of sick, injured and cruelly-treated animals in Galway.

The society's main base is its sanctuary between Killimor and Portumna where it cares for dogs in the dog sanctuary. The cattery and small animal unit is based in Briarhill alongside a large retail outlet. The society also currently has two other charity shops - one on Main Street, Ballinasloe, and the other on Barrack Street, Athenry.

Adopt, don't shop

Adopting one of the society's animals looking for their forever home is one of the first ways people can help.

Just fill out an adoption form on the website gspca.ie, and the society asks to please bear with its small team while processing the application.

"It's absolutely vital to us to match the right animals to their perfect home," the society says. "We offer backup support through the settling-in period and through your time together with your new best friend.

Foster

"We need foster homes so our animals can get used to normal life again before they are ready to find their new forever homes. It's a huge part of the next step on their journey."

Donate

Regular donations play a huge part in ensuring that the society can keep its doors open. Through Standing Orders, social media fundraisers, once-off donations and fundraising events, there are so many ways in which Galwegians can support the society.

It also has a wish list of items on the website which people can drop off to the team.
