New figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show that 4,161 new electric vehicles were registered in July, making it a record monthly total for EV sales in Ireland.
EV sales last month were also up 52 per cent (2,729 ) on July 2022, while 18,458 new electric cars have been registered so far this year, in comparison to 11,175 on the same period last year.
According to the figures, battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and hybrids now have a combined market share (year-to-date ) of 43.35 per cent. Petrol retains the largest individual share at 32.29 per cent, with diesel accounting for 22.06 per cent.
Meanwhile, new car registrations for the month of July were up 24 per cent (27,148 ) when compared to July 2022 (21,904 ). Registrations for the year-to-date are up 20.1 per cent (104,641 ) on the same period last year (87,115 ).
Imported used cars increased by 4.83 per cent (4,409 ) increase in July 2023, when compared to July 2022 (4,206 ). For the year-to-date imports are up 3.96 per cent (29,435 ) on 2022 (28,315 ).
Toyota was Ireland’s best-selling car brand in July 2023, selling 4,045 units. The Japanese brand has also sold an impressive 14,999 cars in the first seven months of the year, with Toyota Ireland saying 88.5 per cent of its sales are represented by low emission hybrid electric vehicles.
July also marked a successful start to the 323-registration period for Renault Group, bringing it to a third-place podium position in the Irish market for the year-to-date with 9.2 per cent market share. The Arkana was the brand’s best-selling model last month, with 416 units sold. The Master is Ireland’s top-selling van model.
