Fondly celebrated as Canada’s reigning couple of Celtic music, husband and wife duo Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy are set to create an exceptional night of music at Monroe’s Live on Sunday, August 6 at 8pm. Both hailing from rich musical backgrounds, their performances are a true celebration of the Celtic spirit, incorporating elements of Scottish, Irish, and Cape Breton music with a contemporary flair.
Not only has their artistic pairing flourished, the couple have seven gifted children who often become the showpiece for their live set, and will join them on stage at the award-winning Dominick Street venue. It’s set to be a true family affair, as Natalie and Donnell continue to inspire a new wave of Celtic musicians, most notably their talented children.
Originally from Nova Scotia, Natalie MacMaster is a virtuoso fiddle player known for her outstanding skills and fiery recitals. Growing up, she was immersed in the Cape Breton fiddle tradition, learning from her uncle, the renowned Buddy MacMaster.
Natalie's playing style is characterised by her lightning-fast bowing, intricate ornamentation, and a deep respect for the roots of Celtic music. Throughout her career, she has released numerous albums and collaborated with various artists, gaining international recognition and earning multiple awards, including several Juno awards.
As the oldest brother of the famous Leahy family band, Donnell Leahy, from Lakefield, Ontario, also comes from a strong lineage of fiddle players and dancers. He began playing the fiddle at a young age and contributed to the group's success, as they gained a sterling reputation for their energetic renditions and blending of various genres.
Donnell's style is characterised by its precision, seamless phrasing, and a natural affinity for exploring different influences. Natalie and Donnell's paths crossed in the early 2000s, and they eventually married, forming a musical and personal partnership that has enchanted audiences worldwide.

They will be joined on the night by the accomplished Scotland based multi-instrumentalist, Tim Edey. A prominent figure in the folk music scene, Edey effortlessly fuses elements of Celtic, folk, and jazz influences.
His expertise on multiple instruments including guitars, melodeon, piano and tin whistle has earned him widespread acclaim and numerous awards, solidifying his place as one of the most respected and sought-after artists.
