Everybody involved in GAA circles in the county was shocked and saddened to hear on Monday the tragic news of the death of Ann Coleman from Abbeyknockmoy and her husband Joe O’Connell from Kerry in a car crash outside Chicago last Sunday night.
The couple are survived by their three children Sarah, Colman, and Maeve.
Anybody who has had any dealings with the Coleman family in any walk of life will know what decent and genuine people they are.
Ann was extremely well known in camogie circles nationally and won an All-Ireland junior medal with Galway in 1998 and All-Ireland club medals with Glen Rovers of Cork in 1992 and 1993, while her husband Joe was one of the best-known figures in hurling circles in Kerry prior to their emigration to the USA
Ann’s brothers Michael and Mattie were stalwarts of the Galway hurling and football teams for years in the 1980s and their commitment and endeavour was always greatly admired.
It is a big blow to the family and our thoughts are with them at this tough time.
