Captivating Collaboration with former ‘The Cardigans’ Lead Singer Nina Persson and Scottish Musician James Yorkston

The collaboration of former ‘The Cardigans’ lead singer Nina Persson and Scottish musician and singer-songwriter James Yorkston has forged a tender and harmonious soundscape that is set to delight audiences at Monroe’s Live on Wednesday, July 26 at 8pm as part of the Galway International Arts Festival 2023.

Together, the duo have released a stunning album, full of insight and empathy, titled ‘The Great White Sea Eagle’. For Persson, it is clear she is captivated by the songs so warmly composed by Yorkston.

The genre defining work is epitomised by austere humour, humanity, nature and grief, with Persson’s effortless, evocative voice forming delicious harmonies that captivate and entice.

While far from her ‘The Cardigans’ roots, this is a soulful and beguiling body of work that will enchant a west of Ireland audience at the award-winning Monroe’s Live venue.

Having risen to fame as the lead vocalist of the internationally acclaimed band, the Swedish singer’s signature vocals shine as she moves away from the pop genre.

Whether she's fronting a band, embarking on a solo venture, or as part of this compelling duo, Nina is one of Sweden's most cherished singer-songwriters.

Following a successful solo career, she is set to showcase her versatility as an artist with the talented Yorkston, highlighting her ability to experiment with different musical styles while maintaining her unique artistic voice.

James Yorkston is renowned for his captivating blend of folk, acoustic, and indie sounds.

Born in Kingsbarns, Fife, Scotland, his music showcases his distinct fingerpicking style on the guitar, combined with poetic and introspective songwriting, while his voice carries a soothing and melancholic quality that perfectly complements his thoughtful lyrics.

Creating songs that delve into themes of love, loss, and the complexities of human emotions, he paints vivid narratives through his music.

Yorkston's work evokes a sense of nostalgia and introspection, inviting listeners on a journey through his beautifully crafted melodies and poetic lyricism.

With his distinctive style and heartfelt performances, he continues to be a respected and cherished musician within the folk and indie music scenes, with a charming knack for improvisation during live shows, ensuring every performance is different.

Not only that, but they will be joined on the night by special guest, Patrick O'Laoghaire who is known as I Have A Tribe. Fresh from releasing his new single ‘Fly Like A Bird’, the singer songwriter has opened for Bon Iver at London’s Wembley Arena and Dublin’s Three Arena among his accolades.

His heartfelt lyrics and soulful delivery has moved many to tears with his gentle sound, and yet he also loves to groove.

Don’t miss your chance to experience a magical evening of music with the unique collaboration of Nina Persson and James Yorkston at Monroe’s Live on Wednesday, July 26 at 8pm.
