Galway Youth Theatre to stage Marina Carr’s family play as part of Galway International Arts Festival 2023
GALWAY YOUTH Theatre will present Meat and Salt, Marina Carr’s fairy tale theatre piece for families, as part of this year’s Galway International Arts Festival 2023.
Based on Shakespeare’s King Lear, Meat and Salt tells the tale of what happens when scrupulously honest Little Daughter tells tyrannical Big Daddy that she loves him as meat loves salt.
For her honesty, Little Daughter is banished from Big Daddy’s Kingdom. Eventually, she falls onto the Mountains of the Moon Hounds, and, after many adventures, meets The Young King who falls in love with her honesty. They agree to marry and Big Daddy is invited to the feast, but a surprise will be waiting for him on the day.
Directed by Andrew Flynn, Meat and Salt will be staged in Galway Arts Centre | Nun’s Island Theatre from 17th to 30th July, at 5pm (no show on Sunday 23rd July ). The play is suitable for all ages and runs for around one hour. Tickets are €12/14 and available from https://giaf.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/873636621
