Galway Racecourse will be jam-packed this weekend, but with horses of a different kind. There will be tens of thousands of horsepower on display as classic and vintage cars, tractors, motorcycles, commercials and even steam engines converge from the 32 counties of Ireland to be part of Classic Fest 2023. Back for a second year following its instant success last year, Classic Fest has already become a must-attend show for lovers of all things vintage and classic. Over 25 classic car clubs are travelling to the event from Donegal to Cork and Kerry to Carlow, so almost every county will be represented in Galway Racecourse this Sunday.
While the main theme of the show is classic vehicles, there is much more to enjoy. A food court will ensure no one goes hungry, live music by Lewd Tunes and Sean Slattery & The Connections will keep the crowds entertained, and the kids are in for a treat with a magic show and a whole host of FREE entertainment including carnival games, face painting and balloon modelling. Modelfest is also back, supported by Galway Model Club – this display of all things miniature was a huge hit with visitors last year, and the display area has almost doubled this year! Trade stands and many side exhibitions and displays will keep everyone busy for the day, along with the RSA Road Safety Shuttle, Blood Bikes West and the Civil Defence in attendance to showcase the great work they do.
While everyone is having fun on Sunday they will also be supporting a very worthy cause, as the chosen charity for this year’s Classic Fest is the Parent Accommodation Fund of the Neonatal ICU Ward (NICU ) in Galway University Hospital. Last year the event raised €9,000 for charity, so let’s hope we can surpass this for 2023.
