1980s Legends In Tua Nua Unite for 40th Anniversary Tour at Monroe’s Live for GIAF

One of Ireland’s premier live acts during the 1980s, In Tua Nua have played with artists of such calibre as Bob Dylan at Slane Castle, U2 on the European leg of their Joshua Tree Tour and shared stages with Fleetwood Mac, Simple Minds and Eurythmics.

Now, founding members Leslie Dowdall, Paul Byrne and Jack Dublin unite for an unmissable show at Monroe’s Live on Thursday, July 20 at 8pm as part of the Galway International Arts Festival 2023.

Together, their fusion of modern folk with traditional music, combined with raw vocals and electronic violin created a stir on the music scene, leading to a record deal with Island records. Their single, ‘Take My Hand’ was co-written by a young Sinéad O'Connor.

Currently celebrating their 40th anniversary, a night with In Tua Nua will relive their musical legacy as they chart their voyage through their discography.

Over the years, original band members have gone on to work with the likes of the Waterboys and Shane McGowan.

The present line-up for their exciting Galway gig at the award winning Monroe’s Live venue comprises of lead singer Leslie Dowdall, drummer and vocalist Paul Byrne and bass guitarist Jack Dublin.

From rehearsals in a garage at the top of Howth Hill to performing internationally, the story of In Tua Nua, a rough translation of the Irish for ‘A New Tribe’ began in the late 1970s, garnering strong support from Bono and Adam Clayton in the formative years.

With influences ranging from Echo and The Bunnymen and Simple Minds to blues, jazz and trad, In Tua Nua became a melting pot for a fresh new sound.

From the highs of being signed, to the lows of being dropped by their record label, In Tua Nua have navigated the stormy path during their esteemed music career.

Formed in 1983, In Tua Nua were an experimental band. While the line-up has evolved, the band’s identifiable Irish sound has never changed.

With a total of 10 hit singles in Ireland during the 80s, In Tua Nua toured constantly at home, across the UK and Europe, building a strong and loyal following.

Not only that, but they toured in the US, where they were arguably the second most popular Irish pop-rock band of the ‘80s.

This wealth of experience and rich soundscape ensures that this is set to be an incredible evening of music.

Don’t miss your chance to catch ‘80s legends In Tua Nua, with special guests, at Monroe’s Live on Thursday, July 20 at 8pm as part of GIAF. Tickets cost €25 and are available from monroes.ie
