The Dynamic Blues-Rock of Rory Gallagher Revisited with the BMG Tribute Band at Monroe’s Live

When Barry McGivern first saw the blues-rock might of legendary Irish guitarist, Rory Gallagher in 1969, it inspired the trajectory of his music career. Having watched him perform in concert over 30 times, Barry set out to bring together the ultimate tribute band.

Recreating the passion, power and energy of the man who inspired the likes of Eric Clapton and Brian May, the Barry McGivern band are described as “simply, absolutely brilliant” by Rory’s brother, Donal Gallagher.

It is this seal of approval that has led the BMG band to gain critical acclaim for the authenticity of their work, displaying the exceptional technical skill that the esteemed Rory Gallagher was renowned for.

Having played over 300 performances across the country, Ireland’s longest running dedicated Rory tribute band are set to take to the stage at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, June 24 at 8pm.

It’s a night dedicated to the soaring solos, pinched harmonies and pin drop lows of Gallagher, merged seamlessly with Barry McGivern’s flair for his catalogue of work.

The Belfast based BMG band are dedicated to the might of Gallagher, ensuring his legacy continues on the blues landscape. Together, they cover the full spectrum of Rory’s music, from the early Taste era right through to the final line up.

Recognised as guitarist of the year by Melody Maker magazine in 1972, and listed as the 57th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, few can match the complexity of Gallagher’s riffs.

And yet, Barry McGivern is amongst them, championing the style that led Gallagher to selling over 30 million records worldwide during the 1970s and ‘80s.

“This is Rory's rock n blues at its very best,” says Barry.

“It’s much more than a tribute. This is high energy, with Rory's style written all over it. Rory Gallagher was an epic performer and my style of playing is very much Rory, but with my own imprint as I am a self-taught guitarist. We know how to brew up a storm!”

Now, his talent will be brought to life once again at the award-winning Monroe’s Live stage. Don’t miss your chance to catch the BMG Rory Gallagher Tribute band in Galway on Saturday, June 24 at 8pm.
