Specialist menopause clinic at UHG

Sixty patients have attended a regional menopause clinic since it was set up in November of last year. The facility, which is based at University Hospital Galway, is a specialist service for women with additional needs around menopause care. Women are referred to the clinic which is open one afternoon per week.

Ann Cosgrove, the chief operations officer of the Saolta University Healthcare Group, which runs the local public hospitals, said 41 new patients have been seen to date at the Complex Menopause Clinic. An additional 19 women who availed of the service were review patients.

Replying to a question from Cllr Dr Evelyn Parsons from Ballinsloe at a recent meeting of the HSE West's regional health forum, Ms Cosgrove said no-one is waiting longer than three months for an appointment at the clinic.
