Today, Guinness hosts an exciting new pub event as part of a stellar line-up of regional Guinness Live & Rising events in pubs across Ireland. Guinness will collaborate with Black and Irish, a community-driven organisation that aims to highlight the successes and struggles of black and mixed-race Irish communities and O’Connell’s Bar in Galway tonight Thursday June 8.
This special event is designed to spotlight three subsections of rising talent across Black Irish creatives, including Afro Irish, Caribbean Irish, and Afro Brazilian Irish, all while celebrating Irish pubs across the country, showcasing the exciting role they play as homes and hosts of incredible experiences.
This unique series was launched in epic fashion by global superstar Dermot Kennedy and rising stars Gemma Dunleavy and JYellowL who performed in the Guinness Storehouse on 2 May, followed by three special pop-up pub performances by Dermot in The Long Hall, Devitt’s and Toner’s where he was joined by Aimee, Somebody’s Child and Niamh Bury. Now, Guinness Live & Rising will showcase further unique collaborations with new and established talent from the worlds of music, food, sport, and the arts over the next 12 months in pop-up pub events.
There will be a variety of cuisines to feast on at the event, inspired by Afro Brazilian and Caribbean flavours. Guests will also be treated to a musical performance by rap duo Marco x Kelvo, Galway natives who honed their craft in the county, EzyLivid and a DJ set by R3D’S HOUSE who will keep the tunes flowing into the night.
Leon Diop founder of Black and Irish, will lead an exclusive panel discussion featuring special guests – keep an eye out for more details! Black and Irish founder Leon Diop said: “We are delighted to be working with Guinness to curate this Guinness Live & Rising event in O’Connell’s Bar in Galway. We will be inviting some incredible rising talent to showcase the unique creativity, culture and craic that can only be found in an Irish pub.Our work with Black Irish communities is only starting.
