Galway Community College (GCC ) has announced its involvement in the delivery of a four-year science degree programme in collaboration with Atlantic Technological University, as part of the new tertiary programme initiative announced by the Minister for Higher and Further Education, Simon Harris, earlier this year.
These programmes are being introduced to help create alternative pathways to third-level education without the need to secure high Leaving Certificate points. The standard PLC further education entry requirements apply, namely having a Leaving Certificate qualification or equivalent and being a minimum age of 17 years.
This new science and engineering courses, starting in September, will combine a year in GCC Further Education college, from which students will transfer directly into year two of the science degree programme in ATU. Students can take a number of pathways within the science and engineering programmes once they have completed year one in GCC.
The option of studying this course is very attractive for many reasons, firstly as the costs involved in year one are extremely low in comparison to equivalent higher education courses. The registration fee for year one is €175. More information on fees can be accessed at www.galwaycc.ie
GCC's smaller classes with additional supports and assistance from tutors increase students' chances of completing the year and progressing onto ATU and completing their degree.
