AtlanTec Festival – itag Digital Women’s Forum hosts dynamic unconference on equity of opportunity

itag’s Digital Women Forum, a leading community-driven forum dedicated to empowering women in the technology industry, successfully hosted an engaging and thought-provoking event on the topic of Equity of Opportunity. The event took place in the Victoria Hotel May 11 and used innovative and collaborative unconference techniques to foster inclusive discussions and drive meaningful outcomes.

The event brought together a diverse group of professional and tech enthusiasts, industry experts, and advocates, all passionate about creating a more equitable landscape for a diverse workforce. Taryn Schuller, Cloud Senior Software Lead, Avaya said, “The unconference format, known for its participant-driven and interactive nature, allowed attendees to shape the discussions based on their interests and expertise on the very important subject of equity of opportunity”.

Throughout the afternoon, participants actively engaged in breakout groups and networking activities. By harnessing the collective knowledge and experiences of attendees, the event aimed to address the multifaceted challenges faced by a diverse workforce in the tech industry and explore strategies to bridge the gap in opportunity.

Eric Fitzpatrick, Director ARK Speaking & Training inspired the audience with his personal stories and facilitated others to share their insights and unique company perspectives on promoting equity. The group emphasized the importance of fostering diverse and inclusive environments, combating unconscious biases, removing barriers to entry, closing the gender pay gap, improving access to education and training, promoting leadership opportunities and providing mentorship and support for our diverse workforce at all stages of their tech careers.

Additionally, the findings and key takeaways from the event will be compiled and published to serve as a valuable resource for organisations, policymakers, and industry leaders seeking to promote equity of opportunity in the technology sector.
