The new Opel Corsa will arrive here later this year, and will be powered by new electric and hybrid drives.
Prices and specifications for Ireland will be announced closer to launch. However, Opel boasts the new Corsa will take its already strong offering in the small car segment to the next level.
The new Opel Corsa features the brand’s new front-end vizor, a brand characteristic that every new Opel model launched now will have as the standard look. Depending on the trim level, Opel says the brand logo on the front and rear will be presented in black or matt satin silver.
Inside, there is a new shift lever and steering wheel design, as well as what Opel says is the optional fully digital cockpit, featuring enhanced graphics and multimedia capabilities to provide a more integrated, intuitive cockpit system that evolves to meet its passengers’ preferences.
The navigation system offers connected services, 'Hey Opel' natural speech recognition and over-the-air updates. The 10-inch colour touchscreen displays driver information even more clearly so that all important info can be viewed in a fraction of a second, according to Opel.
It also points out that for the first time compatible smartphones connect to the vehicle’s multimedia systems and also recharge, both wirelessly.
Driving and manoeuvring in the new Corsa is said by Opel to be even more relaxed, thanks to the new, high-resolution panoramic rear-view camera with flank-guard, matched to adaptive cruise control, speed limiter and forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
Opel says the new Corsa benefits from the latest generation adaptive, glare-free Intelli-Lux LED matrix lights. A total of 14 instead of eight individually controllable LED elements ensure a stadium-bright driving experience that now “cuts out” other road users even more precisely than before. It is not clear from the press information if this will be standard on all new Corsa versions.
Opel claims to have 12 models already electrified today in the line-up, and boasts the new Corsa Electric will take this to the next level, with a wider choice, more power, an improved battery and more range.
It will come with two electric drive options and will be offered with 136hp and a promised improved range of up to 357km, as well as with 156hp and a promised up to 402km range (WLTP ).
When the Corsa Electric needs to be recharged, Opel says it can be done quickly at a fast charger reaching up to 80 per cent of its total capacity in just 30 minutes (from 20 to 80 per cent ), according to the German automaker, now part of the 14 brands Stellantis Group.
Opel tells us that for the first time, it will also offer customers the option of switching to hybrids with a 48-volt system. The 100hp and 136hp engines will come with a new dual-clutch automatic transmission.
