Moycullen Musical Society thrill the audiences at AIMS choral festival

Moycullen Musical Society (MMS ) participated in three competitions at the AIMS Choral Festival in New Ross on Sunday 21 May 2023. A group of 24 singers, one musical director and a pianist had an absolute ball as they sang to judges who adjudicated on over 50 choirs of different shapes and sizes over an intense weekend.

MMS Musical Director, Tomás Ó Cáinte said they wanted to do something different

“We wanted to push ourselves a bit more out of our comfort zone after our show MMS Back In Business in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church in March. That show was a huge success for us. We went on to record choral parts for a single by Galway band, The Opacas, called Shine On, also in March.

“So, at the last minute, we put our names forward for competition at the AIMS New Ross Choral Festival. Our crew sang so beautifully, especially as it was our first time taking on such a venture away from Galway in an alien environment.

“The nerves would have been sky high but there were so many highlights and lessons learned from our day. It was brilliant. The choir’s renditions of City Of Stars and Three Little Birds in particular received praise from judges and other choirs alike, and will live long in my memory.

“So, this year was really about dipping our toes in the water. We’ll keep building and working to be the best possible version of ourselves. All is possible with this group, and that’s really exciting,” he said.

“At the end of the day, we get to sing together and perform to large and different audiences regularly. To be able to do this is such a privilege and we are so grateful to everyone who supports us and turns up to our shows and chooses to spend their precious funds and time with us.” he concluded

MMS’s 2023/24 season will start in September 2023. New members welcome. Please keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.
